California is a state on the western coast of North America. Historically it was the 31st State of the United States of America, and for a majority of the 20th and 21st centuries it was the most populous sub-national entity of that country. It was admitted to the Union on September 9th, 1850. It is also the home of Starfleet and Starfleet Academy.
